Skyline of Benidorm, Spain.

It's not been the best of years, particularly with regard to my job prospects. Due to my age, and the length of time I've been out of work, partly for health reasons, it's unlikely that I'll be writing software for a living again. As a result, in the new year, I'll be looking for work outside of the software industry.

On the bright side, my health is much improved. My cataract operation went well, and my sight is now excellent. It's likely I'll have an operation on my left eye also, at some point in the coming year. As it is, I still have to wear a contact lens in my left eye.

I wear reading glasses, and reading is much easier now that it has been for many years. In the past, I've read mostly science fiction, but I'm now reading novels by Ed McBain, Lawrence Block, Elmore Leonard, and Richard Stark. These novels are really easy to read, and some are much shorter than some of the books I've read in the past, so I can really fly through them.

My favourite TV show at the moment is Slow Horses, on Apple TV, so I intend the read those books as well.

I'm still interested in writing, mostly as a hobby, so reading a bigger variety of books should help with that.

Tomorrow morning, we're making a return to Benidorm for a week's holiday. It's been two years since we've been, so we're really looking forward to it. We normally go for Christmas and New Year, but have cut it back to just Christmas this time. Previously, we've stayed at the Villa Del Mar, and love it there. However, the same group have opened a new hotel called the Villa Espana, so we are giving that a go this time.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you.
